Sometimes, there are so many new dazzling eateries in town that we forget to look a little harder for a place to rest our feet or grab a light meal. Tucked in a little obscure corner at Ngee Ann City is one such place, Toast by Marmalade Pantry.
I got a double portion of Wild Rice Salad and Broccoli & Apple Salad that was a special that day, $8. The auntie serving me proudly informed me that the second salad is tossed with orange juice and recommended that I try it.
Their special salad was good, refreshing from the citrus edge of oranges and thin strips of green granny smith apples. Accompanied with crunchy broccoli bits, chewy raisins and dates, it’s pretty hearty in it’s own way.
Roast Chicken Sandwich with foccacia bread, $9 that was pretty normal. You get to chose between a variety of breads like ciabatta too.
We also tried their Masala Chicken Wrap, $9 and Limonata cupcake, $4.50 that’s not pictured. Compared to the chicken sandwich, I enjoyed the robust wrap much more! The wrap was quickly roasted to a slight crisp, surrounding a colourful filling of lettuce, mango wedges and seasoned chicken strips. The choice of Limonata cupcake made for a light dessert with a fluffy cake base and delightful (non-excessive) lemony icing.
More people are aware of Toast by Marmalade Pantry by now but it still remains one of the hidden gems in the middle of town. With their comfort food offerings and cheery yellow interior, this place is great for a pick-me-up day.
